Food items, medical supplies exempted from customs duties for next six months
As per the directives of the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, the General Authority of Customs has exempted food and medical commodities from customs duties for next six months.
The decision is aimed at helping the economic sector cushion the impact of the precautionary measures being rolled out as part of the coronavirus mitigation efforts in Qatar.
Heeding to the announcement made by the Supreme Committee for Crisis Management, the GAC cancelled duties imposed on 905 commodities included in the “Nadeeb” system of electronic customs clearance
The main foods to which the exemption applies include meat, fish, dairy, cheese, legumes, oils, pastries and juices among other while medical supplies include face masks, sterilizers, soap products, detergents, sterilization wipes, personal and household hygiene items for personal use)
According to Al-Raya newspaper, coordination between the authority and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry was carried out in listing food and medical commodities to implement the aforementioned exemption, as the ministry approved a list that includes the names of food and medical items on which the exemption was applied, and these items can be found by visiting the authority's website www .customs.gov.qa.
