Commerce minister, Qatar Chamber chair to address PPP conference

Virtual conference titled "Developing Partnership between Public and Private Sectors" on Tuesday, July 7

Under the patronage of HE.Mr.Ali bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari, Minister of Trade and Industry, and HE.SH.Khalifa bin Jassim bin Muhammad Al Thani, Chairman of  Qatar Chamber, the first conference for developing partnership between the public and private sectors will be launched on July,7,2020 , at the time the state of Qatar  adopted the first law of partnership which  will take effect on July 11,2020 .

Key speech at the opening session will be delivered by  both the Minister of Commerce and Industry and the President of the Qatar Chamber, where the conference will be held with a video conference system within one day with the participation of speakers from prestigious international organizations, in addition to speakers from the public and private sector in the State of Qatar to discuss the prospects for partnership in the country and the great opportunities that could be created by the new  partnership law.

In this regard, Sheikh Dr. Thani bin Ali Al Thani, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the conference, stated that the partnership between the public and private sectors has become the main drive for business in the world as governments intend to involve the private sector in development and infrastructure financing, so a conference held in this regard will  represents a great opportunity for the Qatari private sector to learn about partnership models and international experiences. The conference also represents an opportunity for the public sector to present its perceptions of partnership and the great prospects that it opens up for the private sector to develop and grow;

The conference, which is expected to be attended by the public and private parties in the State of Qatar, aims to achieve the following outcomes:

  • Establishing a platform for communication between companies, businessmen and relevant government agencies
  • Opening opportunities for the private sector.
  • Arriving at recommendations that enhance the state’s strategy, seeking to maintain good practices in this field.

This important conference examines the following challenges:

  • How to prepare the private sector to benefit from partnership opportunities with the Public Sector
  • How to pass a law, which is fair to all stakeholder.
  • How can this law be the beginning of a real signal for the state’s exit from the field of business?
  • What are the best suitable approached for Public-Private Partnership in the State of Qatar?

The conference consists of three Sessions; Plenary and three working sessions, dealing with the following topics

  • Experiences of governmental agencies
  • experiences of major companies
  • Views of legal experts
  • Experiences of partnership units in other Arab and Gulf countries.
  • Coordination of cooperation between Public and private Sectors.

The conference is being held through Microsoft Teams application and will be published on www.pppqatar.com, as well as on Facebook and YouTube. The conference is expected to attract about 5,000 attendees, the chamber said.
