Gulf Times - 9/11/2023
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) organised a campaign to plant 600 mangrove seedlings at Bin Ghannam Island (Purple Island) in the Al Dhakhira Reserve, with the participation of the French Chamber of Commerce CCI France Qatar and Discover Arabia.
The campaign, supervised by the Wildlife Protection Department's marine and plant segments, saw participation of more than 170 volunteers and environmental activists, as part of the MoECC’s efforts to enhance environmental awareness among all members of society and to protect and develop the marine environment.
Jassim Mohammed Lari, head of the Marine Wildlife Department, confirmed that the campaign aims to achieve a deeper understanding among the public about the importance of mangroves in enhancing biodiversity and protecting coastlines from erosion, as well as their effective role in combating climate change.
Mangroves efficiently absorb harmful carbon dioxide in the air and enhance air quality and preserve the balance of natural environments, he added.
This initiative comes to support Qatar's leading position in environmental conservation efforts, and its endeavor to achieve environmental sustainability at the regional level.
