As a prelude to our monthly lunch, we will have the pleasure of listening to the reflections of Professor Tomas Farchi, Faculty Professor of Organisational Behaviour at HEC Paris in Qatar, on the power of Doubt.

In the business world, companies capitalize on our desire for certainty. Consultants, analysts, and financial advisors help us predict, forecast, and project possible future outcomes from present decisions. We take solace in the unwavering confidence that experts exhibit when offering assured assessments. However, as Daniel Kahneman aptly reminds us, a fair acknowledgment of uncertainty is vital for rationality—yet it is not what individuals and organizations really seek.  This longing for certainty is deeply ingrained within our human nature, in other words: is cognitive bias. Throughout this presentation, we will delve into the extent to which unwavering certainty can hinder our judgment and prove detrimental when tackling intricate decisions and resolving extensive problems.
